Why "Biking with the Fat Kid"??

OK, so why choose this title for this, my little corner of the universe? Easy. I have never been a small person. It's just not going to happen. It's genetics, and I'm sorta over that. Besides, there's nothing I can do about it. At 30 yrs old, I weighed in at 265 lbs., the same as my 65-yr old father. I led a sedentary lifestyle, watching too much TV, and eating too much junk food. Blood pressure and cholesterol were high. This was not a good combination. So I decided to try and do something about it.

I've always enjoyed biking. So, having finally purchased a decent road bike with the intention of riding more, I purchased an indoor trainer as well, and in January, 2008, I proceeded to start riding in my garage. Beginning at 30 minutes a clip - difficult on a trainer, as you cannot coast - I worked on steadily increasing my time until I was able to go for 60 minutes at roughly 80 rpms. It's taken me 4 months, and I'm finally able to get on some outdoor roadways. I've lost 35 pounds, and I'm ready to get out of the garage to do some serious riding.

Still, at 230, some cycling clothes make me look like a stuffed sausage. And not in a good way, I might add. But, I can still get out and ride, so that's what I'm doing.

And you, readers, are welcome to come along for the ride! I don't where it's going to go. I make no promises. I just hope that it's going to be something enjoyable for all of us.
